Guy joined the Canadian Bar Association during first year at Robson Hall Law School and since that time, he has been actively involved with the organization at both the local and national levels. In Guy’s view, being a lawyer and a member of the CBA are synonymous.
Over the course of the last twenty-one years, Guy has served in many capacities within the CBA including, president of the Manitoba Bar
Association and recently, as chairperson of the National Communications Committee. During his tenure on the National Communications Committee,
the CBA developed and launched its first national television campaign aimed at improving the image of lawyers and promoting the Association.
In 2004, Guy was presented with the CBA’s Louis St-Laurent Award of Excellence, thereby highlighting his many contributions to the Canadian legal community.
He is also a Life Council Member of the Manitoba Bar Association.
Guy’s personal motto with respect to the legal profession in Canada is that “A strong profession needs a strong association”. He firmly believes that the CBA is the one and only national body that can truly speak for Canadian jurists as a whole.
In addition to Guy’s many professional activities, he is an active volunteer within the Winnipeg community. He has held numerous positions on boards
and committees of various organizations including, president of Festival du Voyageur Inc. which is responsible for organizing Western Canada’s largest
winter cultural and musical festival.
Guy is a partner with the Winnipeg law firm of Aikins, MacAulay & Thorvaldson LLP, where he practices in the fields of intellectual property law and corporate/commercial law. He is also an arbitrator, and part-time commissioner with the Automobile Injury Compensation Appeal Commission.
An important aspect of Guy’s life is his family. He and his wife Denise reside in Saint-Boniface, together with their three children Élyse, Sébastien and Nicolas. Guy enjoys running, reading and oil painting.
